Braces and orthodontics
Braces and orthodontics in children
Orthodontic period in children is usually between 11-12 years of age. Many orthodontic treatments are also performed during this period. But contrary to popular belief, our children should be introduced to orthodontics at the age of 7 after the milk teeth begin to fall out and the permanent teeth begin to grow. In this way, preventive treatments can be made by preventing many conditions that may occur in the future.
Every child is the most beautiful and special child in the world for his/her parents. Because we cannot diagnose abnormal conditions in our own children, sometimes early detection is not possible and therefore treatment can be more difficult than it should be.”
If children (7-12 years old) have the following problems, they should definitely see an orthodontic specialist:
Loss of permanent teeth at an early age with advanced material loss as a result of caries formation
Early loss of permanent teeth due to trauma
congenital tooth deficiencies
Abnormal habits such as finger or lip sucking in children older than three years
Nasal congestion or habitual mouth breathing
An opening in the front teeth when the jaw is closed
Asymmetric appearance in the right and left jaw areas
The lower jaw is forward or behind where it should be
Upper jaw stenosis
Crowding of the teeth or gaps between the teeth
If you have doubts about making these determinations, it is useful to have your children see an orthodontist at least once a year from the age of 7.
ORTHODONTIC TREATMENT IN ADULTS
There is a widespread misconception among adults that orthodontic treatment cannot be performed after childhood. Apart from some special skeletal conditions related to the development of the jaw bones, almost every capriciousness can be treated successfully. If necessary, advanced orthodontic cases can also be solved with the help of orthognathic surgery.
ADULT ORTHODONTICS IS DIVIDED INTO 2 CATEGORIES
- Skeletal and dental anomalies as a result of calcification
- orthodontic anomalies due to post-acquired tooth alignment disorders caused by conditions such as openings between the teeth due to one or more than one tooth extraction.
Recently, in adult orthodontics, aesthetic expectations are higher than children in order not to disrupt their current living habits as their social lives continue. For this reason, we offer transparent aligners, (wire-free orthodontics, invisalign), invisible wires applied from the inside of the teeth (lingual orthodontics) and tooth-coloured aesthetic brackets (ceramic, sapphire).
Transparent Plate – Invisalign
Designed for all kinds of smiles.
The effectiveness of Invisalign treatment is clinically proven. In the hands of an experienced Invisalign provider, it can be used to treat mild to complex teeth straightening problems.
Cross bite
A crossbite causes one or more upper teeth to close in on the inside of the lower teeth. This can cause tooth wear, gum disease and bone loss.
Spaced tooth
Spacing problems and gaps between teeth can lead to gum problems (because the teeth have no protection), periodontal pockets and a high risk of periodontal disease.
Extremely crowded
Severely crowded teeth can worsen over time, resulting in severely crowded teeth. This crowding can lead to plaque build-up, tooth decay and a high likelihood of gum disease.
Deep bite
A deep bite can cause gum problems or irritation, wear of the lower teeth and/or painful jaw and joint problems.
Underbite (lower teeth are further forward)
Underbite can interfere with the normal function of the front teeth or molars, which can lead to tooth wear. It can also lead to painful jaw and joint problems.
Open bite
An open bite can cause poor or painful chewing and even speech disorders. It can also lead to bigger problems such as temporomandibular joint disorder (TMJD).
In addition to their superior aesthetic properties, Invisalign clear aligners treat all these malocclusions and prevent future dental problems.
Your transparent Invisalign aligners are made specially for you with our special material. They fit comfortably over your teeth and are clinically proven to improve control of tooth movement by gently moving your teeth and even rotating them when necessary.
”With digital intraoral cameras, you can start your treatment without the hassle of taking impressions with a classic spoon and without wasting time for impression submission.”
Treatment Process
When you first put the aligners in, you will feel a pressure. This pressure is caused by the force applied for tooth movement. You will adapt to this situation in a short time. You can easily overcome this problem with the low dose laser therapy we apply in our clinic.
Although the duration of treatment varies according to the case, it is shorter in cases with mild, moderate crowding, gaps between teeth and planned tooth extraction. It can last from 4 months to 24 months. The frequency of control can be adjusted according to the planning of the case and varies as 1 in 4-10 weeks.
Before starting the treatment, all caries and tartar must be removed. According to your doctor’s decision, wisdom teeth can be extracted before treatment. After the impression is taken, no procedure can be applied in the mouth. Prosthetic procedures such as bridges and implants are performed after treatment.
After the necessary preparatory procedures are completed before Invisalign treatment, the patient’s photographs and teeth are measured by digital scanning, and the measurements taken are digitally delivered to America on the same day. It takes approximately 4-6 weeks to create the treatment plan, produce and send the aligners.
After the plates arrive, the attachments (tooth-coloured protrusions of filling material) that allow the teeth to move are glued on the teeth at the first appointment. Then, after the abrasions on the teeth, which are made in order to gain space especially in crowded teeth, the plates are delivered to the patient until the 2nd appointment.
In some difficult cases, elastics that can be worn and removed only at night can be used to correct the bite. In addition, mini screw systems can also be used in difficult cases.
In case you lose your aligner, continue to use the previous aligner from the one you are actively using and contact your doctor.
After the treatment is finished, as in all orthodontic treatments, a very thin wire called “retainer” is attached to the inner side of the teeth in order to prevent the treatment from going back. This thin wire must remain in your mouth at all times.
You will get used to the retainer wire 2-3 days after it is attached. It will be a part of you. There is no harm, but you need to spend more time in that area during tooth brushing.
In order to perform Invisalign treatment, physicians must first obtain a certificate. In Invisalign, the treatment plan is made by the physician. In order to get proper and correct results in the treatment, the treatment must be performed by a specialist physician.
For our patients who live abroad or have limited time, our treatment procedure works as follows:
Cleaning of all decayed teeth and tartar removal before treatment
- a) There are 2 options for this stage:
Our patient can have these procedures done in the place where he/she lives with his/her own means.
Our patient can have these procedures done in our clinic, but in this option, the procedures related to transparent aligners cannot be performed due to the necessity of wisdom teeth extraction, root canal treatment or gum treatment.

We apply braces in Antalya in Turkey for jaw stenosis problems.
Metal Braces
Metal braces are one of the most frequently used and durable treatments. There are 2 types of application of metal braces: from the front surface of the teeth and from the back surface of the teeth. In lingual braces treatment, which is another treatment option, we place the brackets and wires we use on the inner surfaces of the teeth instead of the visible surfaces of the teeth. Therefore, we achieve tooth movement with this method. In cases where aesthetic concerns are high, we evaluate and apply lingual braces and invisalign braces options according to the condition and demand of the patients.
Foods You Should Not Consume in Metal Braces Treatments
During the treatment of metal braces, it is extremely important for the success and duration of the treatment that the wires are not damaged in any way. For this reason, there are some foods that should not be eaten after metal braces treatment in Turkey. As long as patients follow these rules carefully, they will not have any problems with metal braces treatment.
These Foods
You should not chew gum during the braces treatment process.
Avoid foods such as cookies and popcorn.
You should eat foods containing seeds such as plums, cherries, olives by removing the seeds with your hands, not with your mouth.
Do not eat sticky foods such as jelly beans.
Avoid crunchy chocolate.
Bagel, toast, etc. You should generally eat foods by tearing them with your hand, not with your teeth.
You should not bite hard objects such as the tip of a pencil.
As acidic drinks increase the risk of caries, you should consume as little as possible.
LINGUAL ORTHODONTICS
For patients who are uncomfortable with the external appearance of metal brackets and wires, we can provide an aesthetic appearance and apply our treatment by applying transparent plaque application, as well as wire treatment from the invisible back surface of the teeth, that is, from the lingual surface.
ORTHOGNATHIC SURGERY
When patients with skeletal jaw problems apply to us, it is not possible to correct the jaws with orthodontic and orthopaedic appliances if the patient is past the growth-development age. In such cases, orthognathic surgery is an option along with orthodontic treatment.
Orthognathic surgery is a treatment option that aims to correct the skeletal structure and deformities of the jaws and the relationship between the jaw and face, performed by a plastic surgeon or maxillofacial surgeon under general anaesthesia.
Conditions where orthognathic surgery is necessary:
Upper and lower jaws are in front or behind
Jaw asymmetry
Front open closing
Due to the drooping of the upper jaw
